Title: Community Events
Post by fitgrl on 07/27/08 at 5:45pm

I know we have discussed increasing our sense of community on this board several times and that is much of the reason for our "All For One" event.  In that same line, what about a Bluff Park Christmas Parade?

I know it is a little early to be talking Christmas!! But it will be here soon.  Years ago Hoover had a Christmas Parade down 31, and Vestavia still has one.  When I was in high school we always participated in the Vestavia parade since Hoover no longer held theirs and I thought it was such a shame!

Think of all the community organizations that could be involved, church youth groups, scout troops, school clubs plus local businesses.  If the High School groups (band, etc) can participate in the Vestavia parade surely they could participate in a Bluff Park one too, right? Santa could ride on the Fire Engine!! They could go right down Park Avenue with spectators lined up on the sidewalks cheering!   :D  I get excited just thinking about it!!  Thoughts?  How can we make this happen?  Does Hoover have some ordinance banning parades?

I saw this older post and thought I would comment.

In light of the success of the "All For One" event, I think this sounds like a great idea and would increase the prescence of our community.  The logistics do seem a little overwhelming.

It was a big success! I really enjoyed getting to talk to residents. Community events are a great way to get to know your neighbors. Neighborhood events like the "All for one" are evidence of strong resident (BP) involvement in the community.

As far as a Christmas Parade.. that is a bit overwhelming! and I would guess would take more time than we have to coordinate. We have had in the past a Christmas Lights contest where BPers send us a photo of their decor and a winner is picked, but we have had few entries in the past.

Would anyone be interested in a Pumpkin Carving contest for Halloween done in the same fashion, photo contest or they could be brought to a central location.
