It wouldn't help at all. I have lived on this Mt for over 40 years & I know first hand that Hoover created the worst part of speeders here. I used to live on Shades Crest Rd (old Hwy 97) way back in 1972 & the street carried a lot of traffic pretty well along with Par Ave & Alford Ave. Many stuck up residents on Shades Crest Rd. (between I-65 & Oxmoore) kept complaining about the speeders & of course for them, Hoover came in & added all thoses stop signs on it & ticketed anyone going 5-10 MPH over the limit..  It solved THEIR problem & pushed all that traffic onto Alford which now backs up half way to Tyler road on any given morning. Along with Hoover allowing more & more homes to be built futher down South Shades Crest which those people then use The Mt to cross over to I 65 on these 2 main roads & you have a massive amount of traffic for a couple of basic residential roads. Those people on the Crest, screwed over those on Alford. I live on Park Ave & we get a ton of traffic & it gets worse every day & thats why Hoover built the sidewalk for - Not to improve the neighborhood, but to give children a safe way to walk home from school on such a over loaded road.  The more the traffic, the later people run & they willspeed to get to work on time...
In 19 years I have lost 8 mailboxes, my neighbor 7 & the power pole on his property has been hit & replaced 10 times now - DOES ANYTHING CHANGE - NO, you will see a couple of cycle cops after an accident for a few days & then it goes back to the norm - FAST & FURIOUS....

My parents moved to Bluff Park back then because it was Peacful, Quiet, Relaxing with a wonderful view. Todays its just another over loaded residential community with a view of a Hazy Shannon valley. Back then you could see for 9 to 10 mountain ranges, today, your lucky to see 2 or 3.  As soon as my two sons Graduate Hoover, the wife & I will be leaving for another quiter community futher away from B'ham......

I dont really understand your argument or post. Since 1972 Hoover's population has doubled countless times which has created this traffic. There is 3 traffic lights and 1 stop sign Hoovers part of shades crest, and I dont really understand how these make the traffic on Alford or Park bad? Also I really dont understand how the "people on crest screwed over those on alford"? Bluff Park is a wonderful place to live and if all we have to worry about is a little traffic, some speeders, and a very limited amount of crime we should be very pleased. The City and its departments cannot fix everything they have limited resources for unlimited problems. As citizens we can do little to stop speeders,or fix traffic problems but if we watch out for each other we can prevent and discourage crime.

Did not mean to start anything....just thought it an interesting thing that a community was given the power  to take on speeders in their own neighborhood.

Bluff Park is terrific and sure hate to see bashing....speeders are everywhere...we just do out best to keep them at bay.

I was driving through a small neighborhood and they had the 4 lines of reflective yellow bumpy things lined up across the road to slow folks down - would not stop or slow down emergency vehicles, but would make a lot of noise for the average driver going too fast on the road.  And the added benefit that you would never miss seeing them at night.

They were not as intrusive as speed bumps, but you would know they were there is you went too fast and the sound like they are doing terrible damage to one's tires - tho probably not.

Shades Crest used to be busier than both Alford Ave or Park ave. It handled hundreds of cars a day. Go stand on Shades crest in between Oxmoor Rd & I-65 now.  YOU CAN STAND IN THE ROAD FOR HOURS. No traffic hardly at all. Meanwhile Park & Alford has picked up that traffic & as you said the pop keeps doubling yet you see no extra traffic on the crest with all those new stop signs. They swap over to Alford.
All the morning traffice has 1 pipeline to travel from hwy 150 to I-65 - Thats the crest, swap over to Park, to Alford & to the interstate. I get close to 1000 cards a day in front of my house on Park Ave doing anywhere from 35 - 65 MPH.  Tell me that Shades Crest traffic has increased with the population. They complained & I know first hand & they got pampered.

Like I said b4, I lived here for almost 40 years & there was never a speeding problem till Hoover took over & the population increased about 5 times - It caused Traffic pileups & it makes people later for work & guess what?  People tend to drive faster when they are late. In the 70's, it was a nice slow casual drive to I-65 that took about 7 min. Today it takes anywhere from 10 - 20 min., just to get the interstate.
I grew up on this Mt & am not bashing BLUFF PARK, I am bashing Hoover for allowing to many houses to be built without proper infrastructure to handle it - thats a fact... Vestavia has done a fantastic job at keeping infrastructure up with home construction & hoover dont care, they just want tax dollars.
Hoover seems to be more like Bean counters & not reps. of the people.
Maybe you should read the other threads on the way Hoover handles the Barking Dog problem - They Don't..... Hoovers to big to mess with little problems like traffic & dogs.... They have Galleria Fever as its been called.

:'(  I keep reading posts here about the same issues over and over again. People complaining about traffic problems and other people defending HPD and their inept grasp of the underlying problem. Yes, traffic control is one of my main complaints. Yes, I will continue to complain. No, HPD has NEVER responded to any of my complaints and they have been made with my name, address and phone number attached. Hoover leadership does NOT care what we see as problems in our neighborhhod and will NEVER do any better than they do now until there is a change in leadership. The only places that get adequate coverage is the shopping district and the lowrent districts. Someone, please prove me wrong. Please

If you want a town that has no issues anywhere, maybe you should move to Stepford, where everyone bakes cookies and participates in the PTA.  Oh wait...thats not the real world.  There will always be speeders and crime.  Its a fact of life.  The Hoover PD and any other police department for that matter can only do so much.  Unless they had 500 officers driving around all the time over our 40 sq miles of town, I don't see how anything could be deterred anymore than it already is.  Our town has a super low crime rate compared to most places.  Most of what occurs is because of opportunity, people leaving cars unlocked or on the matter of traffic, people speeding.  You speed, you should get a ticket.  You leave your car unlocked, and wonder why people took stuff??? This isn't the 1950's...people aren't all nice...
