Saturday I was out in the back yard working, my son was in the garage, my Mom was out back with me and my Grand daughter was in the house when the door bell rang. She didn't go to the door, but came and got me. When I opened the door a very tall 6'2" or 6'3 light skin black man well dressed with dress shirt, tie and khaki pants holding a can of Glade spray. He asked if anyone had already been to the house and I told him I had been gone and was now working in the back yard so I wasn't sure. He said that he was from a marketing company (no name) and that they were passing out cans of Glade to all the "Happy Women". I told him I wasn't very happy because I was doing a lot of yard work.. he looked confused then said, "well then can I have a minute of your time". I told him I had a lot of work to do and this wasn't a good time. He kept looking around then he said okay and left. Needless to say I didn't get my can of Glade - so it wasn't a promotional item or he would have left it whether I was happy or not. When he got past the shrubs he saw my son (big guy) standing in the driveway. He got in an old model red cargo van. The driver went to the top of the hill turned around and left down Hawksbury. I got in my car to see if I could see them anywhere on Rayburn or surrounding streets & get a tag number, but they vanished. They didn't stop at anyone's house other than mine. He was nice enough, but why didn't they stop up the street- there were some neighbors out in their yard two doors up.
It just seems STRANGE!! :-? Has anyone else seen them???
We called Police Dispatch and gave them the info..

This sounds similiar to an incident with my next door neighbor Saturday around noon. They said someone came to the door driving a purple van trying to sell aerosol products. He only went to their house as well. I saw a van fitting this description going down my street about two hours ago. It sounds like they are scoping out the neighborhood.

What did the police tell you?

If yall want the police to do anything you need to call when these people are at your house, not hours or days after they leave. If you call after an extended period there is little or nothing the police can do for you. Posting this info in this site is helpful but the police need to be told ASAP when folks like this are in the area. In Hoover it is illegal to sell anything door to door without a business liscence. Just get a good description, both of the person, their transportation and their direction of travel and call 822-5300. The city and police take business liscence violations very seriously and will remove the offenders from the area and usually escort them out of city limits. Just remember is very important to call ASAP with good information.

I have been unable to get on the website because of family priorities so I apologize for getting this info out so late.
But the police were called ASAP!! Not hours, days or weeks later.

Dispatch said they would send a few units to patrol.

I just spoke to my neighbor, he called the police. They told him they would increase patrols in this area.

Thank you all for posting this.. i am keeping my eyes open.

I got a similar story from a lady at work but she is in Homewood.
