Title: Car break in- AGAIN!!
Post by appleblossom on 06/04/09 at 9:11am

After the second time you think I would learn.. but I had to unlock my car Tuesday night and just forgot to lock it back.  So, they took AGAIN a Nextel radio, charger and ear plugs from the front seat.  Again, the car was in the driveway about 50 feet from the street.  Our security light was broken and we were in the process of replacing it.   Anyway, be on the alert Turtle Creek Drive.. it's happening again.    >:(

This obviously seems like a local if they are coming back repeatedly :(

A friend of mine had his car broken into last week on Craig Lane. Don't remember exactly what was taken but the car was in the driveway.

I think they got a GPS from the house on Craig.  Thank goodness I took mine out.

This makes the second work radio and car charger taken from my car - I leave it in the car so I won't forget it.  Hence locking it would be a plus.
We have a VERY GOOD IDEA who is doing it, but just can't catch him.   I'm hoping it's just a matter of time because I've had enough.
It was real quiet around our neighborhood for a number of months - then we were told this person was back home - that is when it started - again!

Lets see...probably back on Summer Break...maybe you should try to set up a camera and leave some bait out and try to catch the person on video.

Summer Break - Try parole!

A plan is in the works.

you may want to consider purchasing a camera that hunters use to watch game trails. You can put it up where it can't be reached and it will capture all movement in the area you are monitoring. They are a little pricey but, if it works, well worth the investment.

Title: Re: GOT ON TAPE!!!
Post by appleblossom on 06/06/09 at 5:47am

Thanks for the advise harvardmba, but we have security camera and the whole deal.  AND WE GOT HIM ON TAPE!!!!!!!!!!   It took us over 2 hours last nite to set up the camera & lighting ....at 1:38 am this morning I was awaken by my son yelling WE GOT THE LITTLE "%^&()(_+" !!  My son almost caught him - he was running down the driveway as my son was opening up the basement door.  He watched him run up the street  to his house as he dialed 911.  Officer said we can't do anything until Monday, but a warrant will be issued after a detective looks at the tape and the "^&)&*)(_" will be arrested.  It is exactly who I thought it was - anyone that lives on Turtle Creek is familar with who I'm talking about ...(very short guy that lives in the 400 block in a duplex) Yep!! that's who I have on tape.  After I give the tape to the detectives Monday.. I'm posting the video on YouTube and we can all enjoy what I saw.  I'm sure he will be back tonight so we are going to try and "catch" him in the act.  But, until Monday.. keep your eyes open and lock those cars.  He makes his rounds between 12:30 am and 2:30 am.

Not sure how anyone missed it... Son was yelling loud enough to wake the neighborhood & walked up and down the street with a flashlight before the Police showed up.
Actually  he  was very quiet and came across your yard just before our driveway ,walked on the edge of the driveway then went between ours cars.  The camera has sound and there wasn't any.. he even opened and shut my car door very softly.
We have been burning DVD's this afternoon and will give you one after Detectives get VCR tape Monday.

check your PM

Update..
He was arrested this afternoon and will be held in the Hoover Jail then sent to Jefferson County Jail to night.  :)

I have not posted the video as of yet.  I have requested advise from several people on posting it and we all feel right now is not the time.  I do not want anything to cause this guy to get released because of something I did wilth out thinking it through.   BUT, as soon as we've had our day in court - It will be out there for everyone to see.
Will keep you posted.

Everyone can take a deep breath tonight... but still keep those car doors locked.

At this time Hoover PD has suggested that members refrain from posting anything about the perpetrator until the case has been adjudicated.  Thanks.

Well since I obviously not allowed to post anything about the perp in the case per the hoover pd.  If anybody would like to see a picture of the offender go to the jefferson county sheriff's office website and look at the inmate listing and the suspect is on the list.  You will know who he is.

I would like to add that me posting a link to this guys picture will not harm the case in anyway what so ever.  And may actually add to the case if somebody recognizes this guy it may lead to more charges for more crimes.  But hey if thats what you think the hoover pd meant, then so be it.

I went to the Sheriff's office website but was unable to find the picture, can you point me in the right direction?

I suppose an explanation is in order:

In the United States we have a criminal justice system that works with the belief that the individual who has been arrested is innocent until proven guilty ("the presumption of innocence").

If you post a link to his picture and say "this is the guy who broke into the car" you are setting the BluffParkAl.org web site up for a nice law suit as you are implying that the person is guilty of breaking and entering, a felony.  We don't have the funds to defend a law suit.  I am aware of the overwhelming evidence in the case.  In the eyes of the law, he's still innocent until proven guilty by a court of law, not a bunch of residents of a community.  This is why the news stations always call the perpetrator a "suspect" and refer to the crime as the "alleged crime".  They are just covering themselves.  We want to cover ourselves.

Now, if you would like to post a link to the JeffCo Sheriff's Office site and add the words "This is the suspect in the alleged car break in" we have no problem with that, as you are posting what is public information.  You just can't post "This is the creep that broke into the car".  Apples and oranges.  Night and day.

I hope this clears things up.  The video, on the other hand, won't be able to be posted on this site as it is evidence in the case.

o.k., now that it has been a while since this occured and, since the suspect has been arrested, does anybody know how long it will take for him to go through the legal system to determine guilt or innocense? Is he still locked away? How does this all play out from this point? It would be nice to know that Bluff Park is rid of a criminal once and for all.

He is still in jail-waiting on a court date.

The following is great information floating around the Internet that I thought was very appropriate to this topic and worth sharing.

Put your car keys beside your bed at night!

Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Dr's office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run across.  Put your car keys beside your bed at night.

If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your car or house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.  This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator.

Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this.  It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it.  It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it.  It works if you park in your driveway or garage.  If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your car or house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around.

After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that.  And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot.  The alarm can work the same way there.  This is something that should really be shared with everyone.  Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

It would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone.  Carry your car keys with you in case you fall inside or outside and no one can hear you.  You can activate the car alarm and then someone will know there's a problem.

Rockview - Go to the site. Find the 4 or 5 inmates with a 35226 zip code. Narrow that down to the one who was arrested on the date this was posted.

The man that got in my car .. has been sentenced to 1 year and a day on July 27th.  He pleaded guilty to all charges so I didn't have to appear in court.  His name is Thomas Becket McGlawn and lives at 491 Turtle Creek Drive.  I do not know as of right now if any of the things he took will be returned, but I have talked to the DA's office about it and they are to let me know.

I promised the video and will post it on a site everyone can view. I hope to have it on a link by this weekend. I'm not real good with this internet stuff so I have to grab some time from my son to assist.

:) :)  Everyone have a good day!!

Just out of curiosity was your car door locked?

I'm not sure where your going with that question....??
I believe that has already been answered, but to save you some scrolling... yes, it was unlocked.  And I'm sure that I've heard everything that can be said about having it unlocked, but hey.....NO one is perfect and WE all forget.  I just got caught.

Dont forget though that some people will only lock one door and they don't realize that they have not locked all of the doors. So make sure of that. Also, I would think newer cars would be more difficult to break into if all doors are locked, but some older model cars could be easy to break into even if all of the doors are locked.

Well, Im glad the apprehender was caught. Good thing you had it videotaped. I hope its not a probblem that you put his personal information on this site. But it should help the other residents. Not to be judgemental but I would not want a neighbor like that (even though he wasn't your neighbor right?).

I wonder what would happen if these "no-goods" were to be confronted with one of these coyotes wondering around.

I can see their front door from my driveway... So, he didn't have far to go with the goods.
