History from Behind Kitchen Cabinet.
After making some updates to a house on Valley Street, Douglas McLean
found what we now know is an intact Shades Cliff and Bluff Park Directory from 1958 by the Shades Cliff Civic Club. Mr. McLean found it behind a kitchen cabinet. It’s about 30 pages long, and has some interesting advertisements along with an illustrated map of the area for that year. Notice something funny about the phone numbers? At this point in time your “digits” were not 7 long but started with 2 letters then a 9 or a 1 and then 4 numbers.

Very interesting book. I was actually taken aback when I saw ad on page 27 for Safety Engineering &
Supply Co. I worked for this company in early 1980s. I never knew that company had been around
since at least 1958. You learn something new every day. :o
