HOOVER, Alabama - Hoover Mayor Gary Ivey tonight proposed a $146 million budget to the Hoover City Council for fiscal 2015, including millions of dollars for new road projects, sidewalks and parks and recreation facilities.

A continued economic recovery means an increase in revenues that should enable the city to complete some projects that will help improve the quality of life, Ivey said.

Hoover Council President Pro Tem Brian Skelton said the council will review the budget, get back with the mayor about any questions and hopefully vote on the budget at its Nov. 17 meeting.

The budget includes $23 million for capital projects, including $9.3 million for road projects, $3.5 million for new sidewalks, $2 million for new sports facilities, $2 million for improvements to existing city parks and the Hoover Recreation Center and $1.3 million for a new emergency dispatch phone system.

The $9.3 million in road projects includes $4.36 million for the extension of Galleria Boulevard from John Hawkins Parkway to Old Montgomery Highway, $2.5 million for the widening of Valleydale Road from U.S. 31 to Riverchase Parkway East and $1.1 million to replace street light poles along U.S. 31 between Interstate 459 and Riverchase Parkway.

The road budget also includes $300,000 for three new traffic signals at the intersections of Chapel Lane and Al Seier Road, Ross Bridge Parkway and Shannon Road and Ross Bridge Parkway at Deer Valley Elementary.

Ivey said he hopes to spend $2 million for new sports facilities (i.e. new parks), but he is not ready to disclose the locations being considered because the city doesn't own the property yet and he doesn't want developers moving in before the city can acquire the land..... More here:
