We'll open the questions up by asking: What do you think is the single biggest issue facing Hoover right now, and how would you handle it?

Growth vs. Infrastructure. This is the biggest issue facing the city. We have not taken our infrastructure into consideration as we have annexed more property into the city. The best example of this issue is our school system. Dr. Murphy is in the process of rezoning our school system due to overcrowding, yet we are looking to add 2000 new front doors by 2019. How can we expect to avoid another round of rezoning when we are faced with 2000 new homes in 3 years? The same issue is present in the school system's budget. We currently have a deficit that centers around a high level of instructional staff and instructional support staff. How can we expect the system to produce a balanced budget when the variables are constantly changing at inconsistent levels? Hoover needs stability, and it can be reached if we grow responsibly. While it is true that we are legally obligated to see the build out of our approved PUDs, I do think that city leaders should meet publicly with developers and ask for help in stabilizing our infrastructure. We must at least try to slow down the unbridled growth. In regard to future annexations, we need to draft and enact a growth management ordinance to protect our infrastructure moving forward. Growth is vital for a city, but it has to be measured. If we can solve this problem, we can ease many of the stress points on our city.
