Suspicious Vehicle
02/18/09 at 12:12pm

We were just informed of a vehicle in the Albemarle, Shanandoah, Chapel area acting very suspicious.

The vehicle is a gold Crown Victoria, mid to late 90s model.  Unknown occupants since the windows were tinted.

The vehicle was initially parked in fron of a house on Albemarle near Chapel.  It then moved to the other end of Albemarle near Rushmore and parked in front of a house there.  When a resident came out of a house next door, the car sped off to the opposite end of Albemarle again, backed into a driveway so their tag could not be read.  This indivdual does not seem to want to be identified.

Hoover PD has been called.  If you see this vehicle, try to get the tag number and contact Hoover PD at 822-5300.

I saw a hoover police car going down Chapel and turn onto Albemarle on my way to work which was about 2 hours ago.

We are also under a tornado warning right now so maybe the suspect has moved on.

There was a goldish/tan colored van (my husband thought it was grayish) with ladders on the top parked outside of our house across from our kitchen sink window this afternoon.  It was an older model van, not sure what make/model.  I went to the sink to wash some dishes, and as soon as the driver saw me, he started acting suspiciously.  I continued to stare at them, and after about a minute, they started up the van and drove down to our stop sign.  They then made a U-turn in our intersection, and headed back up the hill quickly.

The driver was a middle aged man with graying black hair and the passenger was tall, skinny, and appeared to be younger.

It is likely that they were just lost, and I would have assumed that and not paid any more attention to them had they not acted so suspiciously as soon as they saw me.  We just read the crime report that was sent out today about the men pretending to be flooring people who robbed the 90 year old lady on Park yesterday.  The description of the men was similar, so just in case, I thought I'd send this out.

Sign up to get e-mails from Hoover PD (we did not get the one about the Floor Care, so if someone would like to post it here, it would probably be appreciated by the rest of the readers)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE from the office of Chief Nicholas Derzis
EMAIL ALERT Bluff Park Area
February 18, 2009
On Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at approximately 1:00 pm, a theft occurred from
a residence on Park Avenue.
The victim, who is 90 years old, answered a knock on her back door. A white
male, with gray/black hair told the victim that he was “starting a flooring business
down the road”. He wanted to talk to her about laying new flooring in the
residence.

While this suspect was talking to the victim, another white male entered the
residence with a small roll of flooring. He was tall, with dark hair and irregular
teeth.

The victim asked both of the white males to leave her home; after they left, she
found cash and jewelry missing from her residence.

No vehicle description is available.

This case is under investigation by the Detective Division. Anyone who
witnessed these suspects in the area of Park Avenue is urged to contact the
Hoover Police Department at (205) 444-7700.

This afternoon, a dark colored car appears to have been abandoned, or broken down, on Cloudland as you pass over the little creek to turn onto Rockview.  It was sitting on the wrong side of the street and sitting out into the street rather than having pulled off to the side onto the ground.

I got the crime report from the Hoover PD email alert on the Flooring Scam/Robbery on Park Yesterday. I am signed up for Bluff Park only as well. I tried to post it yesterday but my account on the forum was having issues and getting errors.

Notice it says theft in the e-mail from hoover pd.  Robbery sounds much worse and is not accurate.

Does the HPD think it could be someone watching?   I just can't see someone knocking on a door hoping it's going to be a 90 year old female that lives alone.   They must have know her or was very confident they wouldn't run into a "Doberman" or PharmD's Great Danes..
