Hoover police encourage residents to lock cars, houses after increase in burglaries

Hoover police are urging people to lock the doors to their cars and homes following an increase in burglaries last year.

The city experienced an 8 percent drop in major crime categories in 2008 from the previous year, but the number of burglaries increased 18 percent, from 373 to 441, according to statistics released by the Police Department. Many of the break-ins could have been prevented, police Capt. Jim Coker said.
