Friends of the Moonlight---

Most folks would agree that there hasn't been a better time to buy a house than right now. The confluence of favorable conditions--- excessive inventory, motivated sellers, rock-bottom interest rates--- offers an unprecedented opportunity that won't always exist. It's one of those situations where the Golden Gates are wide open, and those who don't stroll through them today will sho' feel the regret in times to come.

Remarkably, the same is true for world-class musical entertainment-- our recent events at The Moonlight underscore the fact that for now, some of the finest performers to be found anywhere in the free world can be enjoyed literally face-to-face, in total comfort and convenience, for a couple of bucks either side of fifteen dollars. Before too long, though, many artists' availability may well be curtailed by prohibitive travel costs, diminished audience attendance, AND.... fewer theaters, concert halls, or music rooms where they would be presented. For those who advocate and participate in an active and vibrant musical culture, these are fertile times indeed.

We know you recognize our current blessings, and understand the importance of supporting The Moonlight's upcoming concerts. With your continued interest and patronage, we can continue to offer a premier selection of the premier artists you've said you want to hear--- please make a special effort to come out and show them you're glad for what they do!

TONIGHT! Tuesday the 24th-- BOB DYLAN'S BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR GBHS TORNADO PETS, 7:30pm, $5 donation
We passed out hundreds of flyers at Saturday's Do Dah Day festival, so you might say we reached our target market already--- but how often do you get more than a dozen of our best local players on the same bill, for less than the cost of a deli sandwich? America's patron saint of late 20th-century songwriting turns 70 today, and to celebrate we'll sing him a tiny percentage of his boundless catalog of tunes, in honor of his contributions.

Your donation of $5 (or more!) to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society is your ticket to the party--- the irrepressible Courtney Haden is our emcee, orchestrating an on-site raffle of intriguing Dylan-themed items in between performances by these generous musical contributors:

Rick Carter, Lolly Lee, Macey Taylor, Wilder Adkins & Justin Cross, Heath Green, Doug Lee, Greg Gentry, Sharrif Simmons, Tres Homeboys, Mark Kelly, Simone Durand, George Scherer, Clay Wisner & David Nelson, Chad Fisher, Gary Wheat, and possibly others--- we've invited Bob himself, what if he shows up?

Saturday the 28th-- MARY GAUTHIER, A Moonlight Premium Event, 7:30pm, $20
While there's artists who ride to stardom on the bottle-rocket of sudden genius and big-label promo, they rarely achieve the kind of universal regard that others must earn by a long, hard climb through the underbrush... Gauthier (say it go-shay) came destitute out of Baton Rouge and ran too many years as a misdirected kid, before she discovered herself in the Boston restaurant business, and by sheer coincidence, her stunning gifts as a songwriter and performer. At age 35, she released her first album "Dixie Kitchen"--- a product so pure and strong in its content that she was elevated immediately to the watch lists of fans and critics alike.

Each of Mary's subsequent recordings have raised her profile exponentially, as the unfiltered emotional brilliance of her material attracted the best players and producers available, and she soon found herself headlining top festival schedules both here and abroad. Since her move to Nashville in 2005, she's enjoyed residency in the upper ranks of the industry's most respected creators, and garnered continuing recognition for her unique merits as an artist.

In spite of such weighty accolades, she's pleased to occasionally play smaller venues like ours, in homage to the role we serve in the development of original songwriters everywhere. She'll be joined by her friend, fiddler and vocalist Tania Elizabeth, in a show that we are confident will be the absolute highlight of your holiday weekend.

Sunday the 29th-- KRISTIN DIABLE, 7:30, $10
This is why you need to have the Moonlight Calendar page bookmarked, folks--- we have a late addition that would be cause for deep regret if you missed it by oversight. Another Louisiana native, Kristin has accomplished a considerable amount in her early years as a performer, embracing New Orleans as her home base, and creating a well-deserved stir as one of the contemporary sparkplugs of that city's legendary musical heritage. She's ingested a lifetime already of blues, jazz, and country-folk influences, distilling them all into her languid, smoky set of original ballads, heart-breakers, and barn-burners.

A visit to Kristin's website will tell you that you've probably heard her many times already--- there's a surprising number of TV commercials that slip sweetly along on top of her succinct background tunes, adding a supercool human tinge to thirty-second spots for Jeeps, jeans, and at least one major department store. It's an easy bet to predict much more mainstream success for her in the near future--- and this is yet another chance to get a chunk of the good stuff early on. Don't miss it!
