Congratulations to the the following Bluff Park businesses and churches for winning Hoover Beautification Awards.

Ann Elliott, manager of Bluff Park Exxon, said the first-place finish in the service station/convenience store category was no accident.

"We just take very big pride in the appearance of the store," Elliott said. "We do that inside and outside. The inside looks as good as the outside. We've got a team, and we work together."

Bluff Park Elementary School, which captured first place among schools, also will receive a Tree Conservation Award, Scott said. The award, which is not presented every year, was recommended by Hoover landscape architect Sharon Nelson and city forester Colin Conner for the school's efforts in preserving trees as part of its new outdoor classrooms project.

First-place winners in other categories were Aliant Bank, financial institutions; Inverness Corners, commercial strips or malls; Hoover Fire Station No. 3, fire stations; Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church, churches; Vista Falls apartments, multifamily housing; Up the Creek, restaurants; and Meadowbrook, planned unit developments.
