Patton Chapel Road realignment, widening project set to begin this summer in Hoover
by Jon Anderson, Al.com

A project to consolidate two intersections and improve traffic conditions in front of Gwin Elementary School in Hoover should begin this summer, a Jefferson County road official told the Hoover school board Monday night.

Jefferson County is taking the lead on the road realignment project, which will combine two intersections on Patton Chapel Road into one.

Right now, Preserve Parkway and Chapel Lane both connect with Patton Chapel Road about 60 feet apart.

The new plan would combine those intersections into one intersection. Traffic headed west/southwest on Patton Chapel Road from U.S. 31, if continuing straight, would proceed onto Preserve Parkway. A right turn would put traffic onto Chapel Road headed toward Bluff Park. A left turn would carry traffic onto Chapel Lane toward the Riverchase Galleria.

The purpose of the realignment and consolidation is to simplify the complicated traffic flow at those intersections. Doing so is all the more important because the intersections are right in front of Gwin Elementary School, which draws heavy traffic flow during dropoff and pickup times.
