A local home owner found out the hard way that what you read on the internet is not always true. The homeowner had a leaky roof and needed it fixed quickly. A certain contractor was selected and the contractor’s credentials looked very strong on his website. The homeowner paid the contractor the full amount up front due to the good price and promise of prompt service. So far so good – till the work started.

The next day five day labors showed up and worked thru the day, the following morning the workers showed up but the contractor was gone along with the money. This left the workers unpaid, the roof in a mess and the homewoner mad. A few phone calls later the homeowner found out the references and credentials given by the contractor were all false.

If you find yourself needing work on your home:

* Get more than one estimate and get them in writing
* Contact the Better Business Bureau
* Do not sign a contract you don’t understand
* Insist on seeing the contractors proof of insurance
* Don’t make final payment until you are satisfied
