BluffParkAL.org would like to go on the record regarding our position on the current
Hoover City Schools Transportation Changes (aka Hoover School Buses):
The Bluff Park, Hoover community covers an area of Hoover that includes families who's children attend Bluff Park Elementary School, Shades Mountain Elementary School, Simmons Middle School, Berry Middle School, Hoover High School, and Spain Park High School. Many of these families rely on the school buses to get their children to and from school.
As a parent who's children have attended
Hoover City Schools (HSC) non-stop since 1992, I know the importance of transportation. I also know what a great school system we have, thanks to the best administrators, faculty and support personnel of any school system.
I have been very involved with HCS since 2007, having attended all but six Board of Education meetings since then, and having applied for Board of Education in 2012.
Taking all of these factors into consideration, the
BluffParkAL.org Neighborhood Web Site opposes the termination of school buses for the Hoover City School system. We have made our position clear, both in public and in private.
We believe that in the type of government we have in
Hoover, we should be able to express our opinions without fear of reprisal, but in a positive and diplomatic way.
It is our opinion that every member of the
Hoover City Council,
Mayor Ivey, the
Hoover Board of Education, and the
Hoover City Schools superintendent are good people. Even good people can be wrong sometimes. We believe that they are in this case.
We believe that continued dialogue on the subject is the correct way to solve this issue.
On Tuesday, November 12, 2013 a group of individuals who spoke at a
BluffParkAL.org sponsored meeting initiated
a request for an investigation into the matter that included certain Civil Rights organizations. Although we strongly believe that it is their Constitutional right to do so, we do not feel that this is the way for the situation to be resolved, therefore we will not be part of their campaign.
BluffParkAL.org agrees with Mayor Ivey and the city council that the Hoover Board of Education has not been fiscally responsible when it comes to their budget since 2006, and believe that certain cuts are in order, however, eliminating transportation for almost half of the students attending our schools is not the way to do it.
Every resident in Hoover has a stake in the performance of the Hoover City School system, regardless of whether or not you have children who attend HCS schools, since home values are tied into the reputation of the school system, so we encourage continued attendance at both Board of Education meetings and City Council meetings.
