Quote from galaxiegrace on 06/18/08 at 1:02pm:"Tettering on the Edge" means just that... it could go either way. Every neighborhood goes through this stage... where the old original folks die off (terrible to say but you know what I mean) and new folks move in. I worry all the time about it, because on my street there last month there were 6 houses for sale! The houses on my street are on the low side, so I worry about who might move in. I love my street, we all look after each other, and our animals/kids/houses etc... but 6 houses at one time makes me worried. I sure haven't seen home prices in Bluff Park rise like Old Homewood did in years past, which was what I was hoping for.
And as to a neighborhood association, I am firmly against them... I will never ever vote for one. I will not have someone tell me what color I can paint my front door, or what type of shutter I can put on my house. I bought my house and I will decide. The city has laws for the other stuff... trashiness and such.
Speaking of trashiness and such, over near my parents' house there is a burned out home that STILL no one has done anything to fix. Its across the street from Mr. Smith's land. Aren't there laws against that? Do I need to call and get that house put on Larry Langford's Bulldoze List?

oh ok, I see where you are coming from by the description of your street. Some areas are like that, mine like many around me (I am off Park Ave/Chapel Road) are remodeling and flipping home.. they were all for sale a few years ago, older folks that move out or pass on. The house across from us is remodeling now, mostly outside stuff. We have experienced a big jump in prices for houses right around us.. but we are also on a prominent street (popular). I would say just watch what is going on with the homes for sale and see what they sell for. When you have a lot of young couples move in that is (what I would say) to be a good thing because just from my experience has been a good thing for the homes (updating and such) Homewood may hit a pricing bubble also, have you noticed how many homes are always for sale over there, there is a lot of moving around. A lot of it is due to Realtors really selling the area, they do it in Hoover also.. it just takes some time.
Could not agree more on the neighborhood association, I think they are of socialist agendas. Its my property I am going to paint what ever color I want, hang what I want and cut down what I want. A friend of mine is in one and they had to ask permission to have a dead tree cut down! I could not deal with that.
I can see where it may be a positive if it is a new subdivision where they is still construction.. it keeps the builders confined to standards also but after that I would do away with it.
anyway, I know you were going to be fun to talk to on the forum! Well spoken opinions!
about the burned out house...you may want to call Tim Westhoven with the city. He can be reached by calling the main Hoover number at 444-7500 I called him about the 2 homes on alford/fancher that the city bought to expand the road and they were all overgrown.... it was cut down in a week after I called.
